Job Description / Duties

The Position: Head of Sound – Tom Hendry Warehouse Theatre
This is a seasonal positon that typically starts in September and runs through May (25-30 weeks). We do four shows as part of our season, one large fundraiser and a month of rentals. Start Date: Fall 2015

Responsibilities
 Ensure smooth operation of shows & technical rehearsals
 On an ongoing basis, maintain, or cause to be maintained, all sound and related equipment in his/her care; such equipment shall be maintained in good working order to avoid any loss of time during set-up, rehearsal or performance.
 In co-operation with the Technical Director, maintain an up-to-date inventory of the sound equipment.
 Participate in the selection of audio equipment, the planning of long-term improvements and long term maintenance
 Under the direction of the Composer/Sound Designer assemble and prepare rehearsal and show files .
 Supervise crew whose primary function or duties are sound related

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications
 Strong knowledge of current live recording, mixing and editing techniques.
 Strong knowledge of the various types and patterns of microphones and the appropriate uses of each.
 Degree or certificate in audio electronics or equivalent experience.
 Some background in music and musical theatre, ability to read music is an asset.
 Experience in creating and operating sound for the theatre.
 Firm understanding of the MIDI and SMPTE protocols as applied to the computer/electronic creation and operation of sound for the theatre. Experience with MIDI Show Control is an asset.
 Strong knowledge of digital consoles
 Understanding of wiring, and patching of sound systems
 Ability to troubleshoot and repair cables and connectors
 When a show has no designer, the ability to create simple sound scape for scene change music, or simple cues as deemed necessary.
 Must be a member of IATSE local 63 in good standing or willing to join
