Job Description / Duties

Alberta Ballet is currently looking for an experienced Head Stage Carpenter to join the Production Crew. Reporting to the Technical Director, the Head Stage Carpenter is responsible for the construction, maintenance and installation of company scenery in rehearsal/warehouse/ performance venues. The incumbent ensures good working relationships with a variety of interest groups, including casual labour, IATSE locals and personnel, the performing arts industry and the community at large.

Responsibilities

-Maintenance and pre-tour maintenance of all theatrical equipment, properties, scenic elements and cartage when required by the Technical Director

-Supervise and assist in installation of productions in venues locally and on tour

-Organization and delegation of all work in the carpenter department in each performance venue

-Issue Crew Calls (yellow card) by liaising with International Alliance business agents in the jurisdictions in which performance venues are situated

-Supervise and assist in loading of the trailers prior to a tour and the unloading following the tour

-Supervise and assist at load ins and load outs in performance venues.

-Supervise and assist in the construction of new creations

-Organize and maintain warehouse facilities as required

-Provide leadership in regards to workplace safety

-Such other lawful and reasonable duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Skills and Qualifications

-Must be fully versed in all aspects of theatrical construction methods and practices

-Must be fully versed in the operation/installation/maintenance of all aspects of theatrical rigging

-Experience with crew supervision

-A proven record in successful operations in a variety of performance venues

-Should have the following industry certifications, standard fist aid, fall arrest, forklift operation, pyrotechnics

-Must be a member in good standing with IATSE

-Must work well within a touring production team

Additional Information

Working Conditions

-The successful candidate would be working under the terms of both the IATSE Local 212 Collective Agreement and the IATSE International Stage Employees (Canadian Pink) contract.

- Evening and weekends

- Travel with the company as necessary

Salary: As per the Collective Agreement with IATSE Local 212 and IATSE International
