This is a seasonal position and employment is dictated by the requirements of the Gateway Theatre’s; Productions, Events, Presentations, and Rentals schedules. This is a unionized position and the HE will work under the Collective Agreement between Richmond Gateway Theatre and I.A.T.S.E.118.
Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to the following:
Monitor and assist with all aspects of pre-production as it relates to sound or
Supervision of sound/video installation at our venues when required
Operating, mixing and programming sound and video during productions,
when required (live and pre-recorded)
Advise and assist with maintenance of sound/video equipment
Documenting and tracking of all show-related patching and configuration in
cooperation with designers
May be required to source, build and edit show sound playback in conjunction
with and under the direction of the sound designer.
Must be proficient in recording to, editing on and playback of: CD, SFX, ,and
Oversees the audio inventory and is responsible for organizing equipment
and ordering of supplies as needed.
Assisting with set up, run and strike/restore of sound and video equipment on
Provide inventory reports and updates.
Advise and assist Sound and Video Designers with Gateway Theatre
productions and presentations
Work with Rentals Coordinator and Gateway Theatre Rental Clients on their
productions and presentation.
Assist with occupational safety and health of workers
Supervise the Audio department load-in and strike
Assist other Departments with setup, strike and restore of all show equipment
including set, props, rigging, lighting, and projections.
The disassembly and load-out of theatrical sound equipment as required
Managing Assistant Head of Sound when required by production
Other duties customarily performed by a Head Sound Technician
Proficient in mixing sound for large scale musicals.
Must have a thorough knowledge of digital and analog sound boards including but not limited to; Yamaha M7CL 48 channels and Yamaha O1V 12 channels
Broad understanding of Mac operating system; Q-lab Show control software; Windows XP computer operating system and computer networking
Preference will be given to persons holding an LPEC certificate, OFA Level 1
Proficiency in mixing live music and vocals for live theatre
A general knowledge of all technical aspects of live theatre
Use and maintenance of wireless microphone systems
Five (5) years’ experience in sound for professional theatre.
Proficient skills in Q-Lab (software) programming and operation
Able to work at heights
Reports to and is under the direct supervision of the Production Manager, the HS will work closely with the Technical Directors and Sound Designers during set up, run and strike of Gateway theatre productions, events and rentals.
Salary: $24.90/ hr
Gateway Theatre is Richmond’s only professional theatre company, producing a Signature Series of four shows on the Main Stage plus two Studio productions, and the Pacific Festival (Chinese-language theatre productions). Gateway also houses a play development program, year-round Academy classes for youth, theatre rentals, and community outreach programs.
