The Head Flyman & Assistant Carpenter oversees and coordinates all matters related to the rigging and fly needs of all RWB productions. Duties shall include, but not be limited to: preparation of all rigging paperwork and materials, maintenance and care for all rigging hardware and the soft goods associated with each production. He or she will also act as the Assistant Carpenter under the direction of the Head Carpenter, deputizing for him or her as directed.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage union and non-union crews both in the theatre on in the shop for all types of work calls.
Inform the Head Carpenter of all crew needs both in the theatre and in the shop.
Inform the Head Carpenter of all material and time needs in order to maintain all rigging equipment in show condition.
Ensure all pertinent company policies and agreements are understood and implemented.
Create and maintain complete and accurate show records including: detail drawings, line plots, section plans, and shop orders, cue sheets etc.
Responsible for prepping each show prior to load in at the theatre or load out for tour.
When in the theatre lead crews in the hanging all soft goods and flying set pieces.
Assist the Head Carpenter in the erection and strike of the set as directed.
Supervise and run the fly rail for all performances.
Provide active support for the set & rigging needs of all new creations in conjunction with the Set Designer, Choreographer and other Designers.
During the creation phase of any ballet lead the installation of any integrated rigging appliance incorporated into set and properties elements.
Attend and participate in such meetings that will promote sound communication, liaison and decision making with Artistic and Technical staff.
These shall include: production meetings, creations meetings and event planning meetings.
Complete time sheets in a timely manner for delivery to the Head Carpenter.
Attend all shop, truck, show and meeting calls as scheduled.
Review all technical specifications for each venue and inform the Head
Carpenter of any special requirements or need for changes to show routine.
Maintain company rigging equipment and materials in a show ready state.
Create and maintain an up to date and accurate rigging inventory for the company.
Education and Qualifications:
College or university degree or diploma in Theatre Production or equivalent experience.
Previous experience in rigging experience is required. The ideal candidate has been a Head or Assistant Flyman with a touring company or production.
Knowledge of current rigging technology.
Experience with a dance company is an asset.
ETCP rigging certificate is an asset

The ability to organize and communicate information clearly, both verbally and in writing.
Works in a detailed manner, be resourceful and flexible and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Demonstrate strong writing, mathematical and analytical skills
Willingness to work with and lead a diverse team
The ability to read technical drawings.
IT literate including experience with Microsoft Office
Person lift ticket
Clean driving record desirable.
