Job Description / Duties

Canadian Stage is searching for an Assistant Technical Director to join our production team for Shakespeare in High Park. Reporting to the Technical Director, the Assistant Technical Director will assist in the planning, management, and supervision of technical elements for Canada’s longest-running outdoor theatre event.

Key responsibilities include:
• Supervises IATSE crew members
• Ensures that production and site activities are carried out on schedule and on budget
• Co-ordinates with Technical Director and Head crew member on all aspects of production
• Liaises with creative team and Production Department staff
• Communicates and co-ordinates with suppliers
• Organizes equipment rentals, purchases, and repairs
• Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications / Required Skills

• A strong background in technical theatre, including post-secondary education in technical theatre
• Strong knowledge of all show systems, including lighting, sound, video, staging, rigging
• Full G-class licence in good standing
• Comfortable and capable of driving large 20-26’ straight trucks
• Ability to read and create technical drawings

Ideal personal qualities include:
• Excellent initiative and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and multi-task under pressure as a dynamic and supportive team member
• Strong interpersonal skills, creativity, and a collaborative spirit
• Experience in outdoor shows/venues an asset

Evening and weekend work is required for this position.
