The Opportunity

MacEwan University’s Theatre Department invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2023. This new faculty position will play an important role in the ongoing implementation of a new BFA in Music Theatre Performance, and may have opportunities for interdisciplinary teaching within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communication.
MacEwan University’s Music Theatre Performance Program is seeking a theatre artist and educator specializing in Dance/Choreography and/or Movement Studies to fill a new full-time continuing position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will have a diverse skill-set that draws from their area(s) of specialization. There is also potential to teach additional courses in acting, interdisciplinary collaboration and/or directing. The ability to work effectively in a student-centred, collegial environment is considered very important, and a vision towards developing new approaches to undergraduate music theatre education will be seen as an asset.
The Theatre Department is situated within the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications of MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta. The Department is housed in Allard Hall, a new state-of-the-art building that is part of the University’s downtown campus. MacEwan Music Theatre Performance has been part of the city’s vibrant arts community since the early 1970s, and its newly developed 4-year BFA program builds on its reputation as one of the finest post-secondary music theatre training programs in Canada.

Qualifications

Candidates will hold a minimum of an MFA (or an equivalent credential in their area of specialization) in conjunction with a strong record of professional experience. They will also demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate teaching, with an ongoing interest in creative practice/research. In addition, the successful candidate will have a commitment to innovative pedagogy and building equitable, diverse and inclusive teaching practices.
