Working with the Technical Director, assisting on all of Calgary Opera’s main stage, school tour, emerging artist productions, special events, warehouse, facility, and rentals.
Assist heads of departments with planning and execution
Duties as assigned by the Technical Director and Director of Production.
A Diploma or Degree from a recognized professional training program.
Knowledgeable in theatre lighting, audio, scenic construction, scenery and rigging practises, working experience in some of these fields is an asset.
Minimum 5 years of experience working in a professional theatre with a counterweight fly loft.
Competent in CAD drafting with Vectorworks (alternate AutoCAD – must be prepared to learn Vectorworks).
Valid Canadian Driver’s license, capable of driving a 5 ton, driver’s abstract may be required.
Experienced and comfortable directing IATSE crews.
Able to work in a collaborative environment.
Ability to communicate with suppliers, vendors, stage management, directors, designers and administration.
Able to work with minimal supervision and make decisions.
Able to source equipment and supplies.
Strong computer skills including a thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Current Fall Arrest, Scissor Lift, First Aid and WHMIS certification would be an asset.
Able to work evenings and weekends as required.
This is a contract position for the remainder of the 2012-2013 season and including summer programming.
