Job Description / Duties

The Driftwood Theatre Group, Ontario’s outdoor summer-touring theatre company, is searching for an Apprentice Technical Director for their upcoming Bard’s Bus Tour. Contract runs from June 16th to August 24th, 2014.

Reporting directly to the Technical Director, responsibilities include: the safe and efficient set up and strike of all theatre equipment on touring sites including raised staging, lighting and audio equipment and front-of-house apparatus; the maintenance of theatrical touring equipment; may be required to operate a motor vehicle licensed to the theatre; may be required to operate a lighting or sound console for the theatre. Approximately 11 days of overnight touring, with the remainder of the tour ‘run-outs’ returning to/from Toronto.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The successful candidate will have a variety of technical theatre experience (especially an aptitude for live audio mixing/RF experience, and prior Technical Direction calls/experience/training) possess a professional, hardworking, outgoing and personable disposition; with excellent communication skills, a valid class G driver’s licence (prior experience driving a ‘cube’ van an asset), and demonstrate a passion for the theatre.

Although Driftwood welcomes all qualified submissions, this position is being sought through Service Canada's "Canada Summer Jobs" program, and priority will be placed on candidates who are: returning full-time students in the fall of 2013; students with disabilities; aboriginal students; and students who are members of visible minorities.
