The CQICTS (Quebec Centre of the Canadian Institute for Theatre Technologies) and Place des Arts invite you to a roundtable discussion between technical directors, presented as part of EXPO-SCÈNE 2026.

This roundtable is intended for touring and venue technical directors of all experience levels.

The Challenges of Technical Direction: Technological Changes, AI, and Recruitment

Technical management operates in an environment where change is accelerating. Join us for an important discussion on three major challenges currently facing this discipline:

1. The acceleration of technological change

Innovation cycles are getting shorter. Architectures, tools, and practices are evolving faster than organizations can adapt. The technical director’s role is to anticipate, filter, and prioritize, in order to avoid fragmentation and focus efforts on truly strategic technologies.

2. The impact of artificial intelligence

AI is disrupting development models, required skills, and team expectations. It offers significant productivity gains but also demands clear governance: data quality, security, ethics, and integration into existing processes. Technical leadership must become a driver of controlled adoption rather than a mere observer.

3. Talent recruitment and retention

Competition for technical talent remains fierce. Candidate expectations are evolving: flexibility, a sense of purpose, and a continuous learning environment. To address this, technical leadership must invest in team culture, skill development, and the promotion of internal career paths.

• 12:00 PM: The group will move to the Palais des congrès for EXPO-SCÈNE
