NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR OF THE PRAGUE
QUADRENNIAL
It is our pleasure to announce the 10th Prague Quadrennial
International Exhibition of Scenography and Theatre
Architecture, taking place in June 2003. This unique
exhibition has been held in the Czech Republic every
four years since 1967 and has received the continuous
support of UNESCO.
For the 10th time, Prague will become a place to confront
the trends of World theatre, a place for meeting scenographers
from all over the world (they will be competing for
the Golden Triga Award, as well as the Golden and Silver
Medals). Prague will also become an enormous living
databank of information that gives a picture of the
current state of theatre culture in five continents
of the World.
The tenth anniversary of the Prague Quadrennial, held
in the spirit of the motto "The Labyrinth of the
World and Paradise of the Theatre", will be a celebration
of creativity. Exhibitors in the National Section are
invited to conceptualize the individual exhibits as
scenic objects that will remain open to the adjacent
exhibits. The Theatre Architecture Section will provide
space for diverse relationships, opinions and contexts
in this field. Students will not only exhibit their
work, but will also have a chance to learn, examine
and meet in the SUMMER SCENOFEST organized by OISTAT
(International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre
Architects and Technicians).
"The Heart of the Prague Quadrennial" will
be a place for performances, presentations, and experiments
where various theatre artists can meet each other and
encounter the audience.
Encompassing the theatre and visual arts, PQ 03 hopes
to penetrate the distinct cultures, their history as
well as their current condition today, leading us into
a labyrinth of imagination and spiritual context.
