The Technical Director reports directly to the Production Manager and works directly with the technical and administration staff. The Technical Director works on all Canada’s Ballet Jörgen events throughout the season both on tour and within the Toronto area. CBJ is a touring company with some dates in the GTA.
Responsible for all set, props and production items including their care, maintenance and transportation.
Responsible for running and assisting with all set ups including set, large props, side lighting, laying of dance floor and the strike in all venues with theatre crew provided both professional and volunteers.
Some physical work will be required, including but not limited to, heavy lifting and climbing ladders.
Assists with tour paperwork including venue information, technical rider information, and lighting information.
Updates paperwork for each ballet toured & does detailed venue notes for both new venues and show specific information for all venues.
Schedules and hires part time staff for events under the direction of the Production Manager.
Assists with the set up/strike for in studio presentations.
Will be the primary driver of a 26' straight truck (G class truck) and will drive other production vehicles - cube, vans, etc.
Liaison person for the school shows and tours these shows.
Work hours will include evenings and weekends.
Completion of an accredited post-secondary program in technical theatre or the equivalent combination (2 years or more) of experience and education.
Experience with leading crews as Technical Director or technical department head.
Knowledgeable in scenic construction, fly systems & fixed grid rigging.
Must be self-motivated and possess good organizational and time management skills both written & verbal.
Must be organized and efficient and work well under pressure.
An ability to work independently while also being a part of a small team.
Working knowledgeable of current safety standards.
Must have a valid driver's license and passport.
Touring experience would be an asset.
Experience with Qlab software would be an asset.
Bilingual (French & English) both written and spoken would be an asset.
Position is full time from August 28, 2017 to May 13, 2018
Canada’s Ballet Jörgen will be touring "Anastasia" to western Canada, eastern Canada and throughout Ontario and the States, “Nutcracker” & the “Contemporary & Classical Program” throughout Ontario and "Velveteen Rabbit" to schools in the GTA and eastern Canada.
