Job Description / Duties

Canada’s Ballet Jörgen is looking for a Technical Director for its 2021 - 2022 Touring Season. The Technical Director works on all Canada’s Ballet Jörgen events throughout the season both on tour across Canada and within the Greater Toronto area.

  • Supervises and works with CBJ crew to maintain & transport of all set, props and production items.
  • Responsible for all set ups including set, large props, side lighting, laying of dance floor and the strike in all venues with CBJ crew and venue crew provided - professional and volunteers.
  • Some physical work will be required, including but not limited to, heavy lifting and climbing ladders.
  • Assists with tour paperwork including venue information, technical rider information and lighting information.
  • Updates paperwork for each ballet toured & does detailed venue notes for both new venues and show specific information for all venues.
  • Assists with setting up Q Lab for show use and copying media from computer, video camera or DVD to hard drive.
  • Hires part time staff for events as necessary in consultation with Production Manager.

Qualifications / Required Skills

  • Completion of an accredited post-secondary program in technical theatre or the equivalent combination (3 years or more) of experience and education.
  • Experience with leading crews as Technical Director or technical department.
  • Knowledgeable in scenic construction and fly systems & fixed grid rigging.
  • Must be self-motivated and possess good organizational and time management skills both written & verbal.
  • Will be the primary driver of a 26' straight truck (G class truck) and will drive other production vehicles - cube, vans, etc.
  • Must be organized and efficient and work well under pressure.
  • An ability to work independently while also being a part of a small team.
  • Working knowledge of current safety standards.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and passport.
  • Touring experience would be an asset.
  • Bilingual (French & English) both written and spoken would be an asset.

Additional Information

Position is full time from October 25, 2021 to July 31, 2022.

Canada’s Ballet Jörgen will be touring "Nutcracker" in Ontario, “Romeo & Juliet” in British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Quebec, and “Anne of Green Gables” in Ontario and the States.

Salary: Fee: $1170/week
