This is a Permanent, Full-time position.

Category: Technical
Province: Vancouver, British Columbia
Position: Lead Technician - The Dance Centre - deadline extended
Deadline: August 16, 2017

Job Description / Duties

The Lead Technician is responsible for technical production and equipment maintenance matters for all rental and performance spaces within the building.

Qualifications / Required Skills

This position requires a minimum of 3 years professional experience in a live performance environment. A degree in Technical Theatre or equivalent would be an advantage.
You must have experience in operations and maintenance of a production facility, supervising both hired and guest crew and production teams. You must have a creative spirit and be able to provide superior service to a diverse community of performing artists. You must be an effective, positive communicator, and efficient in time-management in order to address complex issues.
You have knowledge and experience in the following areas: sound design and reinforcement, theatrical rigging, stage lighting (especially for dance...), stage management, and general venue and Front of House processes. You are familiar with Actsafe’s Codes of Practice and Worksafe BC’s Regulations and Guidelines and are able to support both in the workplace. You are current with your First Aid certificate, physically fit and able to lift and move standard theatre equipment and are comfortable working at heights and with ladders.
Proficiency in both PC and Apple environments and the MS Office suite is a must as is comfort with database systems. Familiarity working with computer drafting software is an asset, and skill with an ETC Ion console is a bonus. FE, LE or LPEC certification is a definite advantage.

Additional Information

This is a senior position, reporting to the Executive Director, working with Dance Centre staff and a technical team which may comprise temporary, semi-permanent and casual staff as required. The Lead Technician also acts as liaison to the IT and other consultants who are instrumental in maintaining technical support systems within the building.
The position is full-time, and the nature of the role means working some anti-social evening and weekend hours. Hands-on technical work will be necessary. The Lead Technician is responsible for managing his/her own time as well as that of casual operating staff.
This position will appeal to a generalist – one with knowledge and experience in several aspects of entertainment technology – rather than a specialist. It will be expected that the Lead Technician will “own” his/her place in the organization and will proactively grow and develop skills and relationships over time.
As the successful candidate, you will be self-motivated, and your leadership and communication skills will be useful in interaction with staff, clients, patrons and suppliers. It is expected that you will contribute to and help maintain a positive workplace environment. You have a solid knowledge of the performing arts scene in Metro Vancouver.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
